Learning results

The student’s performance was a bit of a shocker for me. I knew that they could work efficiently well, but passing the test without first discussing it was pretty impressive. I can only assume it was already discussed by other teachers, either English or Spanish. I include Spanish, because most of the materials and topics are very similar. I had heard that the Spanish teacher that was teaching them, was following the same topics with the students. Therefore, I only assume he had already taught them, and they brought the knowledge to class, but translated it to English.

Plausible Reason for performance
I was always told my student were very quick to learn and had a lot of potential. Therefore, it makes sense that they performed well. This shows that the group is good at retaining prior knowledge. Not only that, but they had good teachers before arriving to me. I can’t say much of their performance on the post-test, because they already understood the topic. No major changes were going to be made. That is why I focused on trying to develop their other skills.
 

Discussion of student learning

All the students had already performed excellently on their pre-test, so most of my objectives and assessments were to keep practicing those skills and to further improved the critical thinking and reading skills. From their performance they did excellent. Overall, they did a great job and demonstrated they understood. In some work, it seems they didn’t do that well, but it was me being strict with the work. If they didn’t give me a complete thought-out explanation or forgot to add titles to certain part of the work, I would take away points. Nevertheless, they did demonstrate that they understood the topic and how to perform on the worksheet.

Redesigning Structure

If I had the chance to give this unit again, I would make the unit a little longer and even include the essay part of the unit. Even though it may be difficult to accomplish, I find it fun to teach essays. At the same time, I won’t be under a time limit and the stress of the teacher work sample project. Besides that, I believe in my work as a teacher, in how I delivered the information and how I enforced the learning practices. I truly believe that the way I performed the assessment in the class was also efficient and well thought out for the better improvement of my students. Everything I did was for their benefit, so I am confident that I did good, and I will do even better next time.
 

Reflect
This class was not affected by topics like culture, mental problems or even politics. Therefore, the learning environment in the school and in the classroom was always a healthy one. This most likely has to do with the fact that it is a multi-language learning school. So students are always exposed to multiple different cultures and languages making it hard for them to gain a dislike towards something.

 

Professional goals

The one thing to always keep in mind to reach your professional goals as a teacher is that your students are always the priority in the classroom. Every classroom must always be student focused. We translate the information to a level they can understand. We give them work we know they can work on and perform. Always be patient with then and be open to help them in any way you can. If they don’t understand, explain again until they do. However, just because we are their guide to learning, we must always remember that we are not perfect. We can make mistakes, or we can be the ones learning something from our students. After all, something we must never forget is that just being because we are now teachers, doesn’t mean we stop being students. We grow every day, and we make sure our students grow to be smarter and better than us, so they can later be the guide for other future students.
